THE FASHION SET’S GUIDE TO DOWNTOWN NEW YORK

back to list

With Fashion month in full swing, what better time to talk downtown favorites with some of our most fashionable friends? Here, three irrefutably stylish women give their recommendations for living their best New York life.

Eugenie Trochu—Fashion Editor, Vogue Paris

Favorite downtown spots to…

Sip a cocktail?

ET: Katana Kitten, a brand-new bar in the West Village. The food is great and it’s the best spot to have a drink after a fashion-week day.

People watch?

ET: The restaurant/bar of the Public Hotel.

Kick up your heels?

ET: The Soho Grand bedroom.

Favorite downtown spots to…

To get a bite between shows?

SE: Ruby’s Cafe, an Australian brekky and lunch spot in SoHo. I might be biased as a fellow Aussie, but I have to say, they serve up the best coffee and Vegemite toast.

Find style inspiration?

SE: I’m a sucker for a good consignment store; I love vintage and recycled fashion. One of my favorites is What Goes Around Comes Around in SoHo.

Go all out on dinner?

SE: A place that never fails to satisfy my regular sushi cravings is Sugarfish by Sushi Nozawa, they’ve only recently opened in New York, and in my opinion, they have the best sushi in the world.

Favorite downtown spots to…

Eat dinner post shows?

CR: Sant Ambroeus SoHo for my favorite bowl of spaghetti pomodoro.

Find unexpected style inspiration?

CR: I find myself being most inspired by my travels. I love immersing myself in different cultures; exploring and expanding my personal style through architecture, art, and fashion.

Escape the madness?

CR: When I need an escape, I love to go to the courtyard at The High Line Hotel to read and have a cup of tea.

Update your wardrobe?

CR: I always love to mix vintage with the latest collections. My favorite places to shop right now are 10 Corso Como, The Webster, and Moda Operandi. However, my most prized pieces are the vintage finds from my mom’s closet!

Favorite downtown spots to…

Sip a glass of wine between shows?

There are almost too many good spots to grab a wine between shows (the best problem to have but troublesome for my indecision), but my favorites this year are Forgetmenot, Clandestino, and Rue B. For a casual drink with amazing views, you have to head to the Spring Studio rooftop!

Update your wardrobe?

For a last-minute update to my wardrobe, I like to hit up Beacons Closet, Search and Destroy, and Tokio 7. What Goes Around Comes Around has really great vintage luxury pieces if you’re looking to treat yo’ self. For a jewelry fix, New Top Jewelry is a must!

Dance all night?

To dance, I recommend easing into the night at Beverley’s on the Lower East Side. It’s a really fun little neon-lit dive bar with great drinks. Once you’re done, head over to Brooklyn to get down at Nowadays with a spicy margarita in hand.
