AUSSIE FAVORITE SCANLAN THEODORE OPENS IN TRIBECA

back to list

Scanlan Theodore has been an Australian staple since the late ’80s, coveted by women with the kind of cult-like dedication usually reserved for spiritual icons or rock ’n’ roll bands. Now, thanks to Aussie expats Melinda Robertson and Sarah Blank, the luxury womenswear and accessories brand can be found in New York at three locations—SoHo, Flatiron, and most recently Tribeca. We caught up with Robertson and Blank to hear about the new store, the Scanlan Theodore pieces every New Yorker should have in her wardrobe this winter, and more.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Why Tribeca? Tell us about the location and why you were drawn to it…

ST: There is no doubt that Tribeca is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the city and is well-known for its community-minded neighborhood. We’re excited to be a part of the Tribeca community as the Tribeca woman has already started to demonstrate her understanding and appreciation of the brand’s high-quality European fabrics and Australian designed collections.

What did you set out to achieve with the new store?

ST: Over the past 30 years, women have embraced Scanlan Theodore’s independent spirit, elegance, and femininity, and the newly opened Tribeca boutique is a true reflection of the label’s timeless style and sophistication.

How did you approach designing it? What was the inspiration behind the interiors?

ST: Clients who visit the Tribeca boutique will enjoy a refined, modern aesthetic, which compliments the brand’s intelligent and well-crafted collections. The boutique includes beautifully crafted shelving and counters, goat’s suede curtains, curved hanging rails, and handcrafted terrazzo, which create an elegance unique to the brand. Generous fitting rooms and comfortable lounge areas ensure that clientele can relax and enjoy a personal, customized experience that is key to the brand’s offering.

Will this store carry the same pieces or is it tailored differently? Are you selling anything else in the shop?

ST: Each Scanlan Theodore boutique is custom to its local area. The Tribeca boutique will feature the brand’s signature crepe knit collection, elegant eveningwear, fine Italian leather handbags, and structured footwear. In addition, it will also carry some exclusive pieces specifically for the local woman such as our Shearling Trapeze Jacket, Lace Ruffle Dress, and Toscana Jackets.

What are some of the key Scanlan Theodore pieces every New Yorker should have in their wardrobe this winter?

ST: The Crepe Knit Wrap Jacket (recently worn by the Duchess of Sussex) is a must-have item for the working woman, the brushed Italian Mohair Cardigans provide extreme warmth and breathability, and the expansive trouser collection—designed to take women from day to night.
