“I believe in designing your life how you want, and not feeling like you have to follow by the rules,” says creative director and designer Sally LaPointe. “I’m really into clean eating and exercise….Cooking and baking for my friends. I love anything home related, and architecture. I am obsessed with candles, cashmere, matcha, luxe pajamas, natural wines, tequila, and the color black.” In 2010, Sally arrived in New York to found her namesake label—a favorite among the fashion and celebrity set. Here, she shares her favorite go-to spots in New York, and talks about the importance of quality time.

WHAT WOULD THE TITLE OF YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY BE?
Defiance.

WHAT CAN’T YOU TRAVEL WITHOUT AND WHY?
My little black dog named Snow. She goes everywhere with me; I don’t even go to the grocery store without her.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TRAVEL DESTINATION AND WHY?
My extended family has a house on a very remote island in the Bahamas, this is by far my favorite place to vacation. I go with my husband and dog and have not a single thing to do other than to just be. It’s very private, which is when I feel the most relaxed.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN NYC?
Sundays are reserved solely for time with my husband because we both work so much during the week. All of our friends know this rule! Our favorite thing to do is split a burger and dumplings at the Ear Inn.

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ONE PERSON TO SHOW YOU “THEIR NEW YORK CITY,” WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
I would travel back in time and hang out with Prince for one night.

WHO OR WHAT HAS INSPIRED YOU RECENTLY?
I’m doing a major renovation to my home upstate soon so I’ve become obsessed with architecture and interiors. Minimalism really inspires me. It’s about purity and reduction, and I think that is so important for a peaceful home.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE NYC RESTAURANTS? WHAT DO YOU ORDER THERE?
My two most favorite things in NYC is the foie gras at The Beatrice Inn, and the sashimi at Omen.

WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO SPOT IN NYC FOR DRINKS?
My favorite place to go for drinks is The Blonde at 11 Howard.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE BRUNCH SPOTS?
I don’t really do brunch, but I am obsessed with bone broth from Spring Bone kitchen as a midday treat.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR ART FIX IN NYC? DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ARTIST?
I’m not the biggest museum-goer, but I do love to go see live music. My favorite artist is Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. When they play at the Beacon I like to ball out and get really good seats.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE LATE-NIGHT HANGOUTS IN NYC AND WHY?
I love going to the Nancy Whiskey in Tribeca. It’s amazing there because there are not a lot of bars like that left in NYC. It’s divey, dark, and imperfectly perfect. I always take my team there after our show to celebrate.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR UNDER-THE-RADAR MUST-DO RECOMMENDATIONS FOR NYC VISITORS?
Any and all food in Chinatown. I love little hole-in-the-wall ramen places.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE NYC STORES AND WHY?
I love going to Wyeth. It’s a furniture store and is very inspirational.

WHAT MUSIC ARE YOU LISTENING TO THESE DAYS? WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE MUSICIANS?
I’ve been really into Ali Farka Toure lately. And my all-time favorite musician is Nick Cave.

WHAT ALBUM OR SONG WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOUR PERSONAL SOUNDTRACK TO NYC?
Anything Beyonce.

WHEN YOU THINK OF NYC, ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR EMOTIONS OR MEMORIES THAT IMMEDIATELY COME TO MIND?
Thinking back, moving to NYC right after graduation, I was young, stupid, and fearless. I have a lot of really hard, but really amazing memories of starting my company with my best friend out of the Tribeca loft we both lived in. I also have great memories of being lucky enough to find my soulmate in such a big city. I have no regrets.
