Sam Dillon Quartet Live in The Django
Native New Yorker, Sam Dillon is celebrating his first album as a leader entitled “Out In The Open” for Cellar Live Records. The recording was released on September 7th, 2018.
Although Sam, 2013 Thelonious Monk Semi-Finalist and 2016 Juilliard Artist Diploma recipient, has preformed countless times as a bandleader, this is the first time he has gone into the studio with his quartet. The recording features Peter Zak on piano, Yoshi Waki on bass and Billy Drummond on drums.
Sam’s extensive association with big bands, including The Jimmy Heath Big Band, The Mingus Big, Slide Hampton Octet and The Joe Chambers Jazz Orchestra as well as and array of small groups including The David Weiss Sextet, The Yoshi Waki Quartet, The Frank Basile Quartet, Vincent Herring and The Michael Dease Quintet have allowed him the privilege of performing around the world while becoming one of the most in demand sidemen in the New York area.
Sam prides himself as a teacher as well. He is currently Jazz Director at USDAN (summer camp for the arts) and a saxophone instructor for the MAP program at Juilliard.
